When hooked to a router, the service may be shared with any number of computers up to the router's limitation and bandwidth considerations. From the modem, which receives its signal through your copper-based telephone line (analog), the signal travels to the nearest telco office or remote. There, the DSL signal is stripped from the voice signal via a device called a DSLAM. From the DSLAM the signal travels to an aggregation point where it is send via a secure tunnel to NITRO DSL's location. After authentication takes place your signal (traffic) is passed onto the Internet backbone via our METRO E connection. This process takes less than a second upon initial startup. After that, your modem/router may be set to "keep-Alive" for an "always-on" connection.
